Oral Health Services

Dental services are provided through Howard Dental Center (HDC). Currently, Howard Dental Center provides clinical services to patients who are HIV-positive through five programs:

Fast Track: Comprehensive oral health care services to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Healthy Baby and Youth: Collaborative project with Children’s Hospital Immunodeficiency Program to assist pregnant women and youth.

Perioptions: Periodontal screening and treatment planning for disease prevention and healing including advanced surgical options through referral programs. HDC continues to build a network of dental specialists who support our work.

Patient Services: This program uses a patient-centered approach to assess needs, monitor, and provide referrals to essential services in an effort to empower patients to become self-sufficient. Now in its fifth year, it has proven indispensable to achieving overall health and life outcomes for patients. HDC will continue to build on this effort to increase capacity through a new Integrated Care effort.

SBIRT: From 2009 – 2011, HDC was funded through a federally supported health education entity for Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment. This is a preventive effort to educate the patients about health risks associated with tobacco, alcohol, and substance use, which results in reduced healthcare costs and saving lives. The program proved to be so successful, that it has been integrated it into our overall canon of services.
