Thinly Veiled Prejudice, Perspective Section, Denver Post, January 28, 2007 Tobacco Settlement Could Impact HIV/AIDS Care, Kaiser Report, February 12, 2007 Gay men gain "confidence," lose control with meth use -- The Denver Post, March 14, 2006 Even for a 55-year-old, dating means having to talk before sex -- The Denver Post, Feb. 9, 2006 HIV/AIDS fight far from won -- The Denver Post, Dec. 1, 2005 REPORT: Breaking the Promise: Domestic HIV-prevention efforts have, in fact, been largely successful in the United States. A combined effort of activists sounding the alarm, educators conducting outreach, researchers testing scientifically based prevention methods, and policymakers enacting sound policies and investing needed resources has helped stem the epidemic in this country. Today, we see 40,000 new infections each year, and while this number is too high-even one new infection is too high when dealing with a disease that we know how to prevent-it is a sign of remarkable progress for a country of over 300 million people. Unfortunately, we have hit a plateau in the prevention of this disease and the number of new infections has remained stagnant rather than continuing to decrease. A different reality might be at hand had HIV prevention been given the necessary political support and adequate funding for evidence-based interventions. Women and girls can take action in the fight against HIV/AIDS in a variety of ways such as getting tested for HIV, practicing safe methods to prevent HIV, deciding not to engage in high risk behaviors, talking about HIV prevention with family, friends and colleagues, empowering oneself, and providing support to those living with HIV/AIDS. CAP News Juan Diego Victory On Monday, January 22, 2007, scores of people packed the Denver City Council Chambers to show their support for the Juan Diego project. So many, in fact, that overflow seating was set up in a nearby courtroom with closed circuit tv's. Among a sea of red ribbons, speakers both eloquent and moving, laid out the case for Juan Diego. At the end of the night, the Denver City Council voted unanimously to support Juan Diego, with remarks like "it is a sterling project," and "it is the right thing to do." Colorado AIDS Project and Del Norte would like to thank every person who participated in this effort. Your dedication and support made it possible for us to provide clean and safe homes to 22 people living with HIV/AIDS.
